About homestead museum
1. Palace
The palace is the main construction in Kuskovo. It was under construction in 1769-1775 under the leadership of the Moscow architect Carla Blanca and was intended for a reception of guests in summertime. The summer palace in Kuskovo is a rare sample of the country house which has completely kept up to now the architecture and the original elements of interiors. The invited foreign artists, sculptors, carvers and also Russian manumissions and serf masters took part in creation of interiors. In 1976 - 1983 complex restoration of interiors of the Palace was carried out. Art furniture was restored according to inventories of the 1780-90th years.
2. Big stone greenhouse
By 1763 the Big stone greenhouse on the project of the serf architect Fedor Argunov was built. This greenhouse is the biggest pavilion of palace and park ensemble of the estate. Besides direct functional purpose it was used also for reception of guests. In the center of the Big stone greenhouse was arranged a small round hall for dances. In side projections playrooms and the gardener's shelter were located. Today in a greenhouse there is an exposition of the State museum of ceramics.
3. Grotto
Inside the Grotto there is a central hall painted under pink and green marble and the northern and southern offices, respectively, in cold and warm color scales. The grotto is the only pavilion in Russia which has kept the unique "grotichesky" finishing since the 18th century. It is the most exotic among architectural constructions of Kuskovo.
4. Italian lodge
The Italian lodge was built in 1754 - 1755 under the leadership of Y.I. Kologrivov. In appearance of the pavilion we can easily guess the purpose of each of two floors. The palace character of interiors of the second floor finds expression in architecture of the facade: high window openings, openwork protections of a loggia and balcony, end of eaves elegant balustrade. Small rooms of the first floor were meant for placement of "rarities": rare pictures from beads and color marble, models of the Jerusalem and Bethlehem churches in glass cases, an antique sculpture and many other.
5. Netherlandish lodge
Internal planning and the main details of an architectural decor of the Dutch lodge were saved completely. On the first floor service and utility rooms are located: Lower outer entrance hall and Kitchen. The oak ladder leads to the second ceremonial floor with the Hall and Dessert.
6. American greenhouse
Was built by the unknown architect in the 1750th years in the northeast part of the regular park. The American greenhouse represents a construction on the stone base with various inclination of roofs. The tilt angle of frames was calculated for optimum use of sunshine, especially in winter time. For the best absorption of sunlight simple greenish glass was used. Now in halls of a greenhouse there is the State museum of ceramics.
7. Hermitage
In a southwest part of Kuskovo regular park there is a pavilion called Hermitage. As well as other park pavilions in the 18th century the Hermitage was used for reception of guests, and its name underlined its purpose of the pavilion intended for amusement and entertainments in a close circle of the elected society. Besides, its original construction allowed reaching the second floor without servants. These Hermitages were extremely fashionable at the time.
