The main historical facts about Tsaritsyno
1. The park was founded by such architects as Vasili Bazhenov and Matvey Kazakov in 1776 by the order of Catherine the Great.
2. The homestead was under construction more than ten years and then on Catherine's the Great command its main palaces have been destroyed because the empress wasn't satisfied with the result of the architect's work.
3. Long times ago Tsaritsyno was called The Village of Black Dirt which belonged to different nobel families such as the Godunovy, the Streshnevy, the Golitsyny and the Kantemiry. In 1775 Catherine the Great visited Kantemir's homestead and was impressed by the beauty of the village and desided to buy this territory.
4. Tsaritsyno is also famous for its ponds. They have always been fishermen’s favourite place. There are two lakes on the territory of the homestead. They are called Lower and Upper Tsaritsyno ponds.
5. By the 20th century Tsaritsyno has finally fallen into decay, but by 2006 the homestead has been completely restored and is now visited by lots of tourists every year.

About homestead museum
In 2007 in Tsaritsyno the completely restored palace ensemble officially opens. This ensemble is the main attraction and museum of the park now. There are a lot of constant expositions that are held inside The Grand palace and The Bread house.

The exposition "Tsaritsyno antiquities. Archeology of Tsaritsyno" acquaints you with the archeological finds that have been made in the territory of memorial estate in the 20th century during excavation and researches conducted in the territory of Tsaritsyno in different years. These finds are certificates of various periods of the history of Tsaritsyno and The Village of Black Dirt.

The exposition "Past and present of Tsarytsyno" is devoted to the history The Village of Black Dirt from its acquisition by Catherine II in 1775 and till the beginning of the 20th century when the earth of the imperial residence became a popular country place.
The exhibition project "Catherine II. Golden Age of the Russian Empire" is devoted to the main character of Tsaritsyno — the empress Catherine the Great. Here are submitted engravings and documents, picturesque portraits, furniture, porcelain, weapon, numismatics and household items of that time from funds GMZ "Tsaritsyno".

The best works of the Russian jewelry art of the 16-20th centuries from funds of "Tsaritsyno" are presented in an exposition "Silver storeroom of GMZ "Tsaritsyno"

Some advice

First of all, to see all the surprising beauty of the park, it is worth ordering a tour on a small car which will show you all territory of the park for some certain time.

When the weather is good, it is possible to sit on a bench and to look at the singing fountains. Tsaritsyno is also famous for its picturesque places, so you can make a lot of amazing photos or to draw beautifull picturies.

In this park you can also ride a bicycle, do some exercises and just walk. As the territory of the park is rather big, it is possible to walk the whole day.
